This charming, 200+ year old cottage has been fitted with modern conveniences to provide for a comfortable stay. Every window of the cottage offers magnificent views. Perhaps the overriding advantage of the cottage's position is the fact that it affords COMPLETE PEACE AND ABSOLUTE PRIVACY, while being a few minutes by car (10 minutes), to Barga where you can find all the necessary provisions.
 The entrance to the cottage is a beautiful solid, chestnut wood door, which leads you directly into the spacious top floor living/dining room. The kitchen opens out into the living room and provides plenty of work surface to prepare plendid meals after a day's exploration or hike. You will find all the dishware needed as well as a gas stove for which there is a gas bombola (stored out of sight in a white enamelled cupboard just next to it). The east-facing window provides a splendid view of greenery, part of the village and the grandeur of the Apuan alps beyond. There are two windows on the south side of the room, both facing the valley and the mountains. In the south-east corner of the room is a most attractive cast iron wood-burning stove for use in chilly weather.
A Spiral staircase brings you to the lower level, where you will find two bedrooms and the bathroom. This is also where (from the master bedroom), that you access the backyard and terrace. The hall closet contains all of your linen. As we have no washer in the cottage, you can have Maria Marchetti (our neighbor), do laundry for you if needed. There is also a laundromat in Barga.
 The master bedroom has a double bed. The second bedroom has a twin bunk bed. The main feature of the master bedroom is a handsome pair of arched chestnut wood French doors (with double-glazed glass), which opens up onto a small, terracotta-tiled balcony with a wrought iron railing. This is an ideal spot to enjoy breakfast, or from which to gaze out onto the spectacular mountain view.
Terracotta steps, lead down terrace. This area is perfect for sunbathing. Sunbeds are provided, as are an outdoor table and chair set. A Sun umbrella is also provided for particularly hot weather. Feel free to use the barbecue for an outdoor meal. Carbona (charcoal) and fuel can be obtained from Clerici hardware in Barga.

 Northern Tuscany is for those who love all that nature has to offer. The Garafagna region of Italy has an abundance of hiking trails. This is Tuscany as it was before. Spectacular views, virtually untouched scenery and warm welcomes from families who have been here forever.
Sommocolonia was originally a Roman settlement. This small hilltop town is located 4 km from Barga and 40 km from Lucca.  The winding road from Barga brings you to Somocolonia's parking lot where you will need to leave your car to walk a short distance to the cottage. When you reach the statue of the Virgin, you can see the house perching out from the other buildings in Sommocolonia. The cottage is as romantic as it's name - Alla Coppa Capanna. It is situated on the southern perimeter of the center of the village ... hence those stunning views... and we do mean stunning. A stone-paved Roman trail borders the cottage property and leads down to Barga and beyond. |

In case of cancellation, we will try to rent the dates we blocked for you. If we are successful, we will send you a 75% refund, less a €50 cancellation fee. If we are not able to re-rent the property, the above penalties apply. |
PAYMENT POLICY
At the time of booking, the full booking amount is payable up front by credit card (5% charge applicable) or by bank transfer (no extra charges for bank transfers). A refundable security deposit of €300 is payable upon arrival and will be refunded, less any damage caused. Additional costs incurred (telephone, extra cleaning) are payable directly to the accommodation provider.
